I was just looking at different web-sites for spotted
owls. Did you know that each owl needs 3000 acres of old growth
forest to survive? How covenient for enviromentalists, who hate
logging, to find a endangered species (or so they would like us
to believe) that needs so much acreage to survive. I would like
to know if anyone has tried to introduce any artificial habitat
into the spotted owls territory. I know they used the same arguement
against farmers with the Woodduck years ago. Enviromentalists claimed
farmers were plowing too close to the ponds and the ducks were being
"scared" away. Actually, what the ducks needed was a nest
box 6-8 feet off the ground. The duck has flourished since the introduction
of these boxes promoted to a large extent by Ducks Unlimited. I
think if someone did a similar study on the Spotted owl we would
find that all they really need is a food source, a place to nest
and a water supply.
Thank You, Joe in Minnesota

Ozone Hole
Ozone is being constantly replaced as long as there
is oxygen in the atmosphere and the suns short-wave solar radiation
impacts the oxygen in the atmosphere and creates ozone. The so-called
ozone holes are reportedly at the artic and Antarctic, could it
be that these areas only receive sunlight six month out of the year?
Could it also mean thatthe holes in the ozone develop at the north
and south poles during the six months there are no sunlight? During
these six months of no sunlight no ozone would be created to replenish
the ozone layer. Lightning puts holes in the ozonelayer. Volcanoes
put out more chlorofluorocarbons into theatmosphere than mankind
has put into the atmosphere sense the beginning of the industrial
era to now and yet volcanoes
have very little impact on the ozone layer.
Could it be that the whole idea of the ozone hole
might be nothing but a tactic used by some to get the free world
to give up some of their rights and freedoms out of fear that we
MIGHT be harming the ozone layer? More studies need to bedone in
order to be sure this is the case before we wily
nily give up those freedoms.
The following are found in the Encyclopedia Britannica:
Ozone - (O3), triatomic allotrope of oxygen (a
form of oxygen in which the molecule contains three atoms instead
of two as in the common form) that accounts for the distinctive
odour ofthe air after a thunderstorm or around electrical equipment.
The odour of ozone around electrical machines was
reported as early as 1785; ozone's chemical constitution was established
in 1872. Ozone is an irritating, pale blue gas that is explosive
and toxic, even at low concentrations. It occurs naturally in small
amounts in the Earth's stratosphere, where it absorbs solar ultraviolet
radiation, which otherwise could cause severe damage to living organisms
on the Earth's surface. Under certain conditions, photochemical reactions
between nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons in the lower atmosphere
can produce ozone in concentrations high enough to cause irritation
of the eyes and mucous membranes.
Ozone usually is manufactured by passing an electricdischarge
through a current of oxygen or dry air. The resulting mixtures of
ozone and original gases are suitable for most industrial purposes,
although purer ozone may beobtained from them by various methods;
for example, upon liquefaction, an oxygen-ozone mixture separates
into two layers, of which the denser one contains about 75 percent
ozone. The extreme instability and reactivity of concentrated ozone
makes its preparation both difficult and hazardous.
Ozonosphere - Region in the upper atmosphere between
about 10 and 50 km (6 and 30 miles) in altitude, in which there
are appreciable concentrations of ozone and in which the temperature
distribution is largely determined by the radiative properties of
ozone.Ozone has the formula O3; it is always present in trace quantities
in the Earth's atmosphere, but its largest concentrations are in
the ozonosphere. There it is formed primarily as a result of shortwave
solar radiation (wavelengths shorter than 242 nanometres), which
dissociates normal molecular oxygen (O2) into two oxygen atoms.
These oxygen atoms then combine with nondissociated molecular oxygen
to yield ozone.
Ozone, once it has been formed, can also be easily
destroyed by solar ultraviolet radiation of wavelengths less than
300 nanometres. Because of the strong absorption of solar ultraviolet
radiation by molecular oxygen and ozone, solar radiation capable
of producing ozone cannot reach the lower levels of the atmosphere,
and the photochemical production of ozone is not significant below
about 20 km (12 miles). This absorption of solar energy is very
important in producing a temperature maximum at about 50 km, called
the stratopause, or the mesopeak. Also, the presence of the ozone
layer in the upper atmosphere, with its accompanying absorption,
effectively blocks almost all solar radiation of wavelengths less
than 290 nanometres from reaching the Earth's surface,
where it would injure or kill most living things.

Global Warming
Sounds like it,s really happening when you hear
it only from those so-called scientists who push the idea. They
use their computer models and set up a scenario that makes it look
like global warming is a fact. The one factor that these so-called
scientists neglect to lets the public know about that is missing
from their computer simulated scenario on global warming is the
obvious fact of cloud cover. Cloud cover is such a variable that
they cannot include it in their computer models on global warming.
Also as long as there are oceans on the earth there will be clouds,
heat upthe oceans the water vaporizes and clouds are formed. Withcloud
cover the sunlight is not permitted to reach the surface of the
earth in full force it is filtered thus the atmosphere below the
clouds cool down. Therefore the temperature of the atmosphere is
regulated and kept at a constant.
History shows us that the whether of the earth
in the pass has been warmer then it is today. Greenland had a much
warmer climate in the past; the Norwegian had settlements of about
3,000 with 280 farms as late as the later part of the1400s, which
became extinct in the 1500s. The change was due to the cooling in
Greenland's climate.
The following are found in the Encyclopedia Britannica:"In
982 the Norwegian 'Erik the Red,' who had been banished from Iceland
for manslaughter, settled in Greenland. Returning to Iceland in
985, he called the newly discovered land Greenland in order to make
people more willing to go there, and in 986 he organized an expedition
to Greenland that resulted in the development of two main settlements:
the East Settlement, near present-day Julianehåb, and the
West Settlement, near present-day Nuuk. These settlements may have
reached a maximum population of 3,000 on 280 farms.
Christianity arrived in the 11th century by way
of Leif Eriksson, who had just returned from the
recently Christianized Norway. A bishop's seat was established in
Greenland in 1126.Beginning sometime in the 13th century, the Norse
(Norwegian) settlers began to interact with the expanding Inuitm
'Thule culture' that had appeared in northern Greenland about 1100.
The Norse settlements declined in the 14th century, however, mainly
as a result of a cooling in Greenland's climate, and in the 15th
century they became extinct."
Could it be that the whole idea of the global warming
might be nothing but a tactic used by some to get the free world
to give up some of their rights and freedoms out of fear that we
MIGHT be causing global warming? Oh dear, Oh dear!
Really I think more studies need to be done in
order to be sure this is the case before we wily nily give up those
freedoms.

If we are to follow the greenies and go back to
pre-columbus time, just fish, hunt and make love, the chinese, and
russians, and the rest of the world would just sail their vessels
to our shores, and make slaves out of all americans, including the
GREENIES. where do the greenies find the time to demonstrate? where
do the greenies work? who supports them? The only reason that we
are living the GOOD LIFE here in our country is, the rest of the
world respects our CLOUT, and of course they love our money. If
we do not remain strong and powerful, we are doomed. Just like any
football team a great defense will win. What's better than a Sunday
morning in this great country???? every thing is quite, peaceful,
people going and coming to their place of worship, peacefully. waiting
for the NFL games to start. I voted for Clinton, however, i am behind
GW. with his energy proposals 100%, the greenies can always move
to Africa, Somalia or any other place that still lives in the pre-columbus
era. I just wonder if the Chinese are the true supporters of the
greenies----

I'm TIRED of people considering a "conservative"
view in direct opposition to management of the "environment"
(BAD word).
My husband is a fisheries biologist and votes straight Republican
in every election. Unfortunately, I cannot vote because I am a LEGAL
resident alien (Cannuck). But we are growing weary of hearing that
it's EITHER salmon or people, or EITHER sucker fish or people. Why
does it have to be either/or??? It should be the rancher AND the
salmon, the sucker fish AND the farmer. My husband is trying to
restore salmon populations, nearly decimated in the West, so that
everyone can fish them and EAT them. He loves to fish himself. He
has successfully worked with ranchers in our area in a cooperative
effort to share some of the irrigation waters that all but dry up
the rivers and streams.
All people are called to manage the environment, not exploit it
without regard. Yes, people must always come first, but it should
be people AND the environment. I resent the mentality that Republicans
don't care about the environment.

I, for the most part, really enjoy listening to
your show. I am a 33 year old male republican healthcare professional.
I was a bit surprised and disappointed by your show on 8/8/01 when
you were talking about the "environmentalist wackos" with
the silly tree butchering story and the story about the "pollution
rain."
I live in San Francisco, I am an avid outdoorsman, and I have seen
the destruction caused when conservation is not the intention. The
person who was speaking about rain as the source of pollution was
not speaking about the rain itself, but the run-off from the cities,
landfills, industrial yards, etc. This happens to be a problem in
San Francisco. When it rains, the gutters are flushed of the excrement
of the homeless, oil, traffic grime, sewage. The sewer system becomes
overloaded and the overflow is released through large drain pipes
on the Ocean Beach, the West shore of the City. The water is monitored
for beach-goers and surfers and warnings are sometimes posted. It
is not uncommon for people swimming, surfing, and sometimes boating
to become ill from this pollution.
Thanks for listening/reading.

Dear Rush,
We need your leadership and wisdom on the issue
of energy policy. If we republicans are going to stay in power we
need a real energy policy. This country's energy policy was ruined
by the socialist President Roosevelt when he used taxpayer money
in the thirties to destroy our then booming wind energy industry.
Under the guise of "helping the rural poor" FDR gave the
utilities money to extend power lines to farmers and remove their
wind turbines (at the same time destroying their energy competitors,
the wind turbine industry).
These people did not need the untilites power,
they were making their own electricity and doing fine. That's real
independence Rush, and that's what we need in our energy policy.
We can, and should, turn to wind and solar power. With these permanent
and reliable domestic resources can save our economy from its' dependence
on energy prices that are established with little regard to our
needs. If we don't do this now we will end up like Europe wit! h
sky high gas prices, filthy air, and no energy independence. The
Arabs and the big oil companies may grit their teeth but we have
to what's right for our country and we should do it before the liberals
steal our idea (like they are doing in San Francisco).
Keep us "right",
Thank you

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
Rush, we need to constantly pound into people`s
heads that we will never have peace until we achieve oil independence
from the Mideast. These liberals have their nose buried so far up
the environmentalists they don`t care about what happens to America.
Tom Daschle`s high aspirations about becoming President needs to
be downplayed that he`d rather fight future wars with the Mideast
than stop this one. People should understand that caribou don`t
pay taxes we do. If we keep buying oil overseas the fundamentalists
are going to have more to fight our children in 10 years as they
say it will take to start drilling. It`s these people who think
that this politically correct stuff that wins wars is a joke just
like Geraldo Rivera that Roger Ailes hired that it`s alright for
them to kill us but we can`t kill them. He`s probably the best reporter
the Taliband could have hired. One of these days people might wake
up. I did when I changed my voter registration. Keep on pushing
the word.
Thanks.

What IDIOTS!!!!! We are all fishermen and Hunters, as fishermen
there is a catch and release process in which you can exercise,

Carbon Dioxide is Good for the Environment - by John Carlisle
Carbon dioxide is good for the environment. That simple fact must
be restated to counter environmentalists' baseless allegations that
the accumulation of man-made carbon dioxide, produced by cars, power
plants and other human activities, is causing dangerous global warming.
Indeed, far from being a poisonous gas that will wreak havoc on
the planet's ecosystem, carbon dioxide is arguably the Earth's best
friend in that trees, wheat, peanuts, flowers, cotton and numerous
other plants significantly benefit from increased levels of atmospheric
carbon dioxide.
Dr. Craig Idso of the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and
Global Change, one of the nation's leading carbon dioxide research
centers, examined records of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations
and air temperature over the last 250,000 years. There were three
dramatic episodes of global warming that occurred at the end of
the last three ice ages. Interestingly, temperatures started to
rise during those warming periods well before the atmospheric carbon
dioxide started to increase. In fact, the carbon dioxide levels
did not begin to rise until 400 to 1,000 years after the planet
began to warm. Concludes Dr. Idso, "Clearly, there is no way
that these real-world observations can be construed to even hint
at the possibility that a significant increase in atmospheric carbon
dioxide will necessarily lead to any global warming."1
On the other hand, scientists have lots of evidence demonstrating
that increased carbon dioxide levels leads to healthier plants.
A team of scientists in Nevada conducted a five-year experiment
in which they grew one group of ponderosa pine trees at the current
carbon dioxide atmospheric level of about 360 parts per million
(ppm) and another group of pines at 750 ppm. The doubled carbon
dioxide level increased tree height by 43 percent and diameter by
24 percent.
Similarly, a team of scientists from Virginia Tech
University reported that growing loblolly pine trees in a greenhouse
with a carbon dioxide concentration of 750 ppm increased average
tree height 9 percent, diameter by 7 percent, needle biomass by
16 percent and rootbiomass by 33 percent.2
Increased atmospheric carbon dioxide doesn't just make a plant bigger.Carbon
dioxide also makes plants more resistant to extreme weather conditions.
In a study discussed in the journal Plant Ecology, a team
of scientists subjected the Mojave Desert evergreen
shrub to three different concentrations of carbon dioxide - the
current level of 360 ppm and at 550 ppm and 750 ppm. The plants,
which were being grown in simulated drought conditions, responded
more favorably in the carbon dioxide-richenvironments. Photosynthetic
activity doubled in the 550 ppm environment and tripled at 750 ppm.
Increased photosynthetic activity enables plants to withstand drought
better. 3
Likewise, a team of biologists grew seedlings of three yucca plants
in cooler greenhouse environments at the 360 ppm and 750 ppm concentrations.
The yucca plants exposed to the enhanced carbon dioxide concentration
showed a greater resistance to the colder temperatures. Dr. Robert
Balling, a climatologist at Arizona State University, notes that
by making plants healthier and more resistant to extreme weather
conditions, higher levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide expands
the habitat of many plants, improves rangeland in semi-arid areas
and enhances agricultural productivity in arid areas.4
Another benefit of enhanced atmospheric carbon dioxide is that it
helps the tropical rainforests. Scientists from Venezuela and the
United Kingdom grew several species of tropical trees and other
plants in greenhouse conditions at carbon dioxide concentrations
double the current level. The plants responded favorably, showing
an increase in photosynthetic activity. The scientists concluded
that, "In a future atmosphere with a higher carbon dioxide
concentration, these species should be able to show a higher productivity
than today."5
Another team of British and New Zealand researchers grew tropical
trees for 119 days at elevated levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
They found that the enriched carbon dioxide environment stimulated
the trees' root growth by 23 percent. Expanded root systems help
tropical trees by increasing their ability to absorb water and nutrients.6
Bigger trees, increased resistance to bad weather, improved agricultural
productivity and a boon to rainforests are just some of the many
benefits that carbon dioxide bestows on the environment. With little
evidence that carbon dioxide triggers dangerous global warming but
lots of evidence showing how carbon dioxide helps the environment,
environmentalists should be extolling the virtues of this benign
greenhouse gas.

Environmental Stupidity
I'm sorry however these people are so nutty they
could not have fallen to far from the tree. I read an email about
light pollution? One said that it takes 50 years to grow a tree
to make lumber, WRONG try 15. And a huge amount of harvested trees
come from tree farms, (well who would of thought). The trees that
are harvested from the wild are harvested and replanted, also the
resulting cutting away of undergrowth preserves the forest because
it eliminates the spread of wild fires, which endanger the forest
and people. Without this harvesting there would be less forest,
and even old growth forest.
Most people don't know that when old growth is
harvested, they are harvested using a method called thinning. The
contractor selects trees of a certain size, and only x amount per
acre. this helps the forest itself to replenish the growth and knocks
back the undergrowth. Growing up in the south, I grew up with seeing
forests burn to the ground for miles and miles because of a lack
of harvesting. I've seen the scorched earth due to our subjugating
ourselves to an ignorant environmental policy. Now with modern techniques
and farming, the country side is green and lush with forests both
soft and hardwoods. We do protect certain trees, such as oak trees
which are in selected areas and they are beautiful. An informed
policy of environmental stewardship will allow us the only species
who can and will protect the earth the ability to both use and enjoy
our home without being put into a box and sent back to the stone
age.

On Environment Pollutants
Dear Rush,
I was listening to your show during my lunch break
and caught the bit with the gentleman from New Orleans who threw
out some outrageous environmental statistics. He claimed that the
air in New Orleans contained enough metal to fill up 55 Superdomes
each year, and that more pollutants were put into the Mississippi
River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans than the rest of the river
combined. Rush, you missed your chance to imitate John Stossel!
A quick check to the EPA's web page indicates that
in 1999 total air emissions (hydrocarbons, metals, etc.) for the
entire United States was 2,029,364,423 pounds. Let's assume that
these pollutants have the same density as water ~62 pounds per cubic
foot. This works out to 32,507,846 cubic feet of pollutants. Now
according to the Superdome's website, the interior space of the
facility is 125,000,000 cubic feet. So, the entire air emissions
of the United States fills up about 26% of the Superdome.
Next according to the EPA, in 1999 702,496,748
pounds of pollutants were directly discharged into the Mississippi
River (this number does not include pollutants from tributaries
such as the Ohio or Missouri Rivers).
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality
breaks down by Parish the amount ground water releases. If one starts
with Pointe Coupee Parish just north of Baton Rouge, and works down
to Plaquemines Parish south of New Orleans, the total ground water
reportables were 12,193,588 pounds, or 1.74% of the total direct
discharge.
As for his claims regarding cancer, study after
study has indicated that the high levels of lung and colon cancer
found in South Louisiana is directly related to higher levels of
smoking and the high fat diet enjoyed by the population. No credible
study has ever linked the high cancer rate to the chemical and petroleum
industry located in the state.
Finally, I think Gov. Mike Foster (R) would take
issue with you lumping him in the same category as previous Democratic
administrations.
Mega dittos

I own a marine manufacturing company in Palm Beach
County. I just saw an article in the "San Diego Log" of
6/1/01, regarding the suit brought against the Florida DEP by the
consortium of environ-wacko groups including the "save the
manatee club".
The US Army Corp of Engineers has imposed a regulation on a marina
in Vero Beach requiring a 50/50 split between sail boats and powerboats.
They have force 37 powerboats out of the marina to reach compliance
and have created a vacancy problem for a marina that has shallow
water and is not well suited for large sail boats.
This sounds like a news item from some 3rd world Dictatorship!
I am convinced that "environmental" forces within my own

Scientists: Great Lakes Are Cleansing Themselves
Updated 4:57 PM ET October 2, 2001
By Lesley Wroughton
TORONTO (Reuters) - Canadian and U.S. scientists
say they have proof the world's biggest fresh water system, the
Great Lakes straddling Canada and the United States, are cleansing
themselves of pollutants, and they are planning tests to see if
the same is true in the Arctic.
The unusual phenomenon was discovered by the bi-national
Integrated Atmospheric Deposition Network (IADN), which says tests
since 1992 show that significant quantities of polychlorinated biphenyls,
or PCBs, and pesticides were being released into the atmosphere
by the five Great Lakes -- Erie, Superior, Ontario, Michigan and
Huron.
The combined surface area of the lakes, which hold
about 20 percent of the world's fresh surface water, is about 94,250
square miles.
Dr. Keith Puckett, Environment Canada's manager
of the IADN, likened the process to giant lungs that have been sucking
in polluted air for the past 50 years. Now that the atmospheric
levels of many of these pollutants have dropped, the lakes have
started breathing out the pollutants again.
He said that since Canada and the United States
began regulating the use of certain chemicals, levels in the atmosphere
started dropping and the lakes then began their own process of cleansing
-- at twice the rate they took in.
``As air pollutants over the air drop, this then
allows the lakes the opportunity to cleanse themselves and they
do this through a process of volatilization or out-gassing of these
compounds into the air,'' Puckett told Reuters.
Now, Puckett and his team want to do the same tests
around an archipelago of islands in the Arctic Ocean.
``Our greatest interest will be a group of small
islands where we know that the wildlife there, the seals, walrus,
polar bears, have high levels of these pesticides we can try to
make same measurements there,'' he said.
The studies of the IADN on the Great Lakes show
that Lake Ontario, the smallest of the five lakes, released almost
two tons of PCBs into the air from 1992 and 1996 as well as significant
amounts of dieldrin, a widely banned insecticide.
Puckett said data between 1992 and 1996 show there
was a decrease of roughly 10 tons of PCBs in the lake and a net
decrease of more than 4 tons of dieldrin.
From remote IADN stations at each of the lakes,
which are linked to a series of satellites, the scientists track
some 20 atmospheric pollutants, he said. This year they will expand
their monitoring to include mercury.
Puckett said it was time to pay closer attention
to air pollution from power plant smokestacks, factory boilers,
household furnaces, fireplaces and smoking tailpipes on millions
of vehicles. Each contributes its share of fine particles and ash,
acid gases and smog-forming compounds to the atmosphere, some of
which ends up in the Great Lakes.
This was part of a new challenge, he said, adding
that the IADN was still trying to determine the quantity of pollutants
coming from local sources within the Great Lakes Basin, and how
much was coming from continental or global sources outside.
He estimated that about 30-40 percent of dioxins
dropping into the lakes comes from local sources, but toxaphene,
a now banned pesticide, was blowing in from the southern United
States where it is used on cotton fields.
``There is still material going into the lakes
but there is more coming out,'' Puckett said.
``In order to stop the material going in we have
to ensure that material still being used in Canada and elsewhere
is sort of limited and international agreements are put in place.
With that, pollution levels will go down faster.''

Electric Cars
So what makes environmentalists think that using
electric cars is going to have an any overall effect on pollution?
These vehicles may not pollute the air directly, but the electricity
they use doesn't just come out of thin air. It has to be produced
at power plants, most of which use fossil fuels and the production
of exhaust will simply be transferred over to them.
Hybrid gas/electric cars are more promising but
have one unfortunate legal obstacle; California, which has the strictest
emissions requirements in the US, requires that a certain percentage
of cars produced each year be entirely electric (hybrids don't count).
And that article on the hybrid Hummer isn't that impressive, since
despite the Hummer's immense weight at about 8000 Lbs, it's transmission
is geared so low you could run one on a hamster wheel.
With either kind of vehicle, the high-capacity
batteries are bound to pose a problem; All rechargeable batteries
die out sooner or later and they can be very expensive to replace,
especially such large ones as found in these cars. Such maintenence
might prove to be more expensive than that of an average gas-powered
automobile. And the chemicals they leave behind will be quite difficult
to dispose of safely, I imagine.

Solar Power
I have been hearing a lot about solar power again
these days, of course mostly from the liberal environmentalists.
I have a serious concern about the extensive use
of solar power. People like to talk about the unlimited power that
we can get from the sun. This "unlimited power" source
is exactly one and the same as the power source that powers our
environment. What are the long term ramifications of intercepting
this power before it reaches the surface of the earth? There has
to be an affect on the environment.
I don't understand how environmentalists
can propose this as a solution to our energy/environmental problems.

Energy crisis is National Security Problem
Just a commment from the fruited plain, the problem
with electric shortages has caused problems (and millions, maybe
billions of dollars) for industry. For example, the factory I work
in has to shut down sometimes in the afternoon when the temperature
soars in the summer. This is in Keokuk Ia. and in the same town
as Lock and Dam 19 on the Mississippi River. This particular hydro-plant
supplies power to St Louis and is very much in demand. Other industry
in Keokuk is forced to shut down in "peak alert" hours.
Rush an example of industry in Keokuk is automotive weather stripping,
corn syrup, railroadwheels, and steel. These are industries vital
to day to day needs. The companies have to change shift schedules,
pay overtime to bring people in early to meet production needs,
or shut down the afternoon shift. If this is going on in Keokuk
Ia. then I'm guessing that the entire nation is having to deal with
this Barbara Striesand. In case of war, where American industry
must really fire up the war machine, I wonder if we could without
some major energy supply changes. Thanks for continueing my education

Alaska, Daschles BIG CON. - Date: Thu, May 16 03:23
AM
I was quite upset about Tom Daschle's comments on a recent CNN news
show about how drilling oil would endanger the wild life in Alaska.
I could tell right away that he has never toured the existing pipe
line. I have. While stationed at Ft. Wainwright Alaska, I a horse
back trip with some native Alaskan's that I had met during my stay.
The pipeline is a refuge for wild life as there is no hunting aloud
near it and as a matter affect I saw more wild life in large herds
around the area of the pipeline than any of the other areas we traveled.
I could tell Tom Daschle did not know what he was
talking about also because of my trip through South Dakota, last
summer. The population of deer in his own state are so out of hand
that you can't travel across it without coming close to or having
an accident by hitting a deer. I was hit by a deer as I was getting
off the highway.
After this deer ran into my car I went to a near
by service station to assess the damage. The lady in side told me
that the whole state was having problems with the deer population

Bi-Partizan way to drill for oil! - Date: Thu,
May 16 03:23 AM
The other day i listened to your WONDERFUL program, as you were
teaching us how the dems. and environs. are fixin to put windmills
on the shores of the northeast. May i suggest a little bi-partisanship
here? The windmills will be on high towers similar to the oilrigs,
as i heard you explain it to us. So, take the tall oil rig and put
a 4 foot diameter propeller on top of it and start drilling for
the black gold !!!!!!!!!

Regarding ANWR, how about this argument?
If we produce oil in ANWR, all Arab OPEC countries will have to
reduce their production to keep the price up. Reduced OPEC production
improves the global environment. Isn't this what Kyoto is all about?
Last time I heard, the US had some of the strictest EPA regulations
in the world. If the OPEC regulations on oil production are so great
that we want them to produce more oil, then what regulations do
we need to adopt? We have to be more environmentally conscious than
Saddam?
In addition to greater air pollution in OPEC countries when we decline
to produce oil at home, there are also increased risks sending oil
from Iraq all the way to the US and thus greater danger to the environment.
Additionally, US balance of payments suffer with the purchase of
foreign oil, there is less money for domestic programs, and there
is more money for Saddam to give to terrorists.
Voting no on ANWR is just "NIMBY" (not in my back yard)
run amok. It is not a true concern about the global environment.
The Germans figured this out with nuclear power when they looked
at Chernobyl and realized Germany would be better off producing
their own power than having Russia do it.
What do you think?
Sincerely, Tom in Silverdale, WA

How many Americans need to die to protect future
U.S. oil interests in the Middle east , because you don't want to
allow oil drilling on 3.125 acres of arctic waste land?? How many
lives is that worth??? Perhaps The DEMOCRATS are a HEADWIND????
Sincerely,
Randy

World's supply of oil - Date: Thu, May 16 03:23
AM
Rush, I have read that the planet has tilted and
rotated 90 degrees on it's axis every 16 million years or so, meaning
that all land masses above the given water line at that time were
a habitat for plant life, Over a few million years, the pool of
"petrol" deposited would be huge and possibly deep or
far from today's coastline. Now, I know we don't drill deep for
our oil because of economics, but I would believe that the largest
oil deposits ever have not been discovered yet. We have the time
and technology to wait until the cost is increased until it is feasable
to drill for these deeper or more complicated sites but rest assured,
there is more than anyone knows.
Our technology will begin to heat with hydrogen
in the next 10-20 years and generate electricity with hydrogen too.
We will always need the plastics from oil but the energy will be
replaced as economics demand. Oh, by the way, when hydrogen begins,
the only pollution will be oxygen and water. We will have to learn
to live with all this new pollution and death of trees starved of
their carbon dioxide.

Lunatic-- Barbara Boxer(alias Senator) is at it
again. Boxer now wants to add 28000 square miles of national lands
to the "wilderness" category. This will only make a bad
situation worse. I just retired after 41 years from the Calif. Department
of Forestry and Fire Protection and each year the fires burn hotter
and more intense than the year before. As a professional fire manager(Unit
Chief of the Amador El-Dorado Unit) we have been trying to expand
the use of thinning and fuels management to lessen the fuel loading
to reduce the energy release and give firefighters a better chance
to contain a fire at minimal damage. Restrictions on thinning and
logging coupled coupled with not being able to due prescribed fires
to reduce the fuel loading have set the stage for holocaust. What
we see now in Colorado and Arizona and in recent past in Montana,
Idaho. Oregon. Washington not to mention the fire prone king California
is only going to get worse.
Putting more land into "wilderness" status
only worsens the situation . The use of mechanized equipment such
as fire engines and bulldozers is prohibited unless authorized by
the Forest Supervisor. Unfortunately they are under tremendous pressure
not to due so and usually firefighters are losing the battle (getting
their ass kicked) before authorization is given. It's fighting fire
with one arm tied behind your back. People don't understand the
other consequences of big fires. Lose of protective cover means
erosion into streams, excessive mud slides in winter.economic loses
due to lost recreational opportunities, and on and on. Resevories
become filled with silt and debris and water supplies and purity
are at risk.
I'm the President of the local water district board
of directors (El Dorado Irrigation District) and I am very concerned
about the Boxer bill because it will hamper fire control operations
near much of our water supply not to mention the potential damage
to the coveyence system. This nuttiness has to stop or we will see
bigger and more damaging fires year after year' burning up more
homes, more timber, more down stream(ancillary)damage costing billions
to mitigate. The Congress and the State Legislators need to know
what's coming and it's not pretty. A 2000+ degree crown fire is
unbelievable to see but it's damage is by our own making.

Bankrupt Green peace
Date: Wed, Jun 26 01:02 PM
Do you think that the people of Az. that suffered
loose because of the wild fires can file a suit against Green Peace
and other liberals responsible for the damage? If I was on the jury
panel I would find in favor if all concerned.

Ozone
Date: Tue, Jun 18 02:19 PM
We've heard a lot about ozone depletion over the
years and this puzzles me.I was just watching the Weather Channel
and saw a report warning people to stay indoors during the day in
order to avoid ozone produced by car exhausts. These people can't
have it both ways. Quick,Rush, tell people the solution to the problem
of ozone depletion - drive more! Glad I could help save the world
from this eeeevil probem.

I can not get a call through. However, I have been
in Bangladesh two or three times per year for a week at a time in
the past four years. How Dare they say anything about pollution.
They put out so much pollution over there that by the end of the
day you cannot see one block ahead of you. I got very sick during
one of my visits and I was told in Singapore it was from the pollution
in Bangladesh. I have also seen what the leaders do with the money
we already send them. They build monuments of themselves.

Spilled Oil on Ocean
Has any one asked the question, why are the Oceans
still alive after WW II. How many Oil Tankers were sunk? How many
depth charges were dropped into the oceans tring to sink U-Boats?
How many Ships were sunk and how about all the equipment that pushed
overboard from ships so it didn't have to be brought back to the
States? One would think that all the oceans would be dead.Wouldn't
they?

There is something the U.S. and other developed
countries could do that would drastically reduce the amount of petroleum
products we import.
Imagine if you could drive across town without stopping for red
lights. Try to imagine how much gasoline and diesel fuel is consumed
at red lights in one day in the U.S. alone. Try to imagine how much
extra wear is done to vehicle parts such as brakes, transmissions,
etc. due to having to stop at red lights.
The solution is obvious and we have the technology to do it. Synchronization
of traffic lights is the answer! With synchronized traffic lights,
you would drive along at or near the speed limit and the lights
would change to green ahead of you as you approach them. This has
been done to some extent already in at least one small city. If
you have ever driven through Wichita Falls, Texas on Highway 287,
you have seen it in action. It works like a charm!
It would require a massive investment in technology, but it is possible
to do. The savings in fuel, time, and vehicle repairs would be immense!
Rush, please do what you can to get the ball rolling on this. It
is long overdue.
Thank you,
David

My house is 5,300 square feet. It was built in
1920 but has a brand new heating system, but I'm feeling a little
guilty now. Maybe I should level it, and buy some new lumber to
build a smaller one...or would that offend some environmentalists?....

Enviornmentalists
Just wondering if you read the April 21 editorial
from the Philadelphia Inquirer. I forget the woman's name who wrote
her side the earth day nonsense, but she is one of the nuts who
want everyone to trade in their SUV's for smaller cars, and turn
off the lights in their houses to save electricity, and so on. However,
the one thing that really bothered me was her "advice"
to people who want to have a baby. She wants people to adopt instead
of conceiving.
Why? Because children cost money and use up energy
from the earth. It's disgusting. Can you believe her priorities?
And she stands for everything that the liberal environmentalists
stand for. Children are the enemy. In other words, "Life is
bad." Sounds like Satan to me, the father of death and lies.

The coldest winters in centuries. Normal hot, summer
temperatures since records were kept! Why, then do the liberals
whine "global warming" and what is their ulterior motive?
