Campaign handlers claim Kerry isn't hiding any of his
war records, insisting all have been released to the public. That simply is not
true. Many more records -- including Kerry's medical records -- could and should
be released.
On Aug. 23, the Pentagon responded to a Washington Post Freedom
of Information Act request by turning over just six pages of the 100-page Kerry
dossier. Why? Kerry wouldn't authorized the release of the full file.
On
the issue of military service, Kerry boldly says: "Bring it on!" Yet he won't
bring it out.
When Sen. Bob Dole recently questioned Kerry's medals and
service, a campaign spokesman retorted: "It's unfortunate that Sen. Dole is making
statements that official U.S. Navy records prove false. This is partisan politics,
not the truth."
The truth is just one signature away. Why not sign Standard
Form 180 so the public can see those Navy records? Thirty-year-old ghosts would
be exorcised. The fog obscuring his service would melt away. The presidential
race could return to basics. But Kerry isn't signing.
President George
W. Bush long ago signed to release all of his records. But Kerry isn't signing.
Medals of valor, including three Purple Hearts, could be substantiated.
But Kerry isn't signing.
Polls show Americans overwhelming want those records
released. But Kerry isn't signing.
His campaign could use a boost from
having his detractors discredited. But Kerry isn't signing.
The issue has
become so charged the U.S. Navy is now investigating. But Kerry isn't signing.
Until
those Navy records are made public, Kerry is open to all sorts of accusations
that otherwise can't be disproved, such as the charge Kerry was not granted an
honorable discharge until March 2001, almost 30 years after his service term ended!
That's right, Internet sources claim Kerry did not receive an honorable discharge
in the 1970s but appealed while Bill Clinton was in the Oval Office. Political
pressure was applied, and an honorable discharge was then granted.
Could
that be true? Given the fact Kerry led the Vietnam Veterans Against the War while
still serving in the Navy, it's believable. Signing to release all records, though,
would disprove such charges.
Former Navy Secretary John Lehman disputes
the authenticity of a citation for bravery that contributed to Kerry's silver
star, saying: "I never saw it, I never signed it and I never approved it." That,
too, is certainly believable. Signing to release all records, though, would prove
who's right.
Others charge Kerry's military files are rife with reports
of him "giving aid and comfort" to the enemy, along with protests filed with respect
to his alleged valor under fire. These claims seem likely. Signing to release
all records, though, would make this go away.
Accusers ask where are Kerry's
Performance Records for two years of obligated Ready Reserve, the 48 drills per
year required and his not-more-than 17 days of active duty per year training while
in the Ready Reserves? They contend Kerry committed war-time crimes as a Ready
Reservist while leading the VVAW and point to the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment,
Section 3, states: "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress,
or elector of President and Vice-President having previously taken an oath to
support the Constitution of the United States, [who has] engaged in insurrection
or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."
Kerry attacks President Bush's service record while making it seem he eagerly
went to war immediately after graduation. Some say the truth is Kerry sought to
defer his military service a full year to go to Paris. They say records will show
Kerry enlisted only after the draft board refused his appeal.
Then there
are claims Kerry's three Purple Hearts are not based on actual wounds, that medical
records will show Kerry had only one day off sick.
All of this could be
dispelled -- or substantiated -- by the release of Kerry's remaining military
records.
With the election rapidly approaching, the American public can't
wait for the U.S. Navy to conduct its unusual investigation. Navy officials are
refusing to give any timetable for the inquiry. If the truth is to come out in
time, Kerry's signature is needed.
Kerry's campaign condemned the Navy
probe as an expensive waste of time and Pentagon resources, but it is Kerry who
is wasting time.
So, again, why does Kerry balk? Signing likely will help
his flagging campaign, because polls show an overwhelming number of Americans
want him to be fair and comply.
Add your name to those urging Kerry to do
the right thing. Regardless of political affiliation, encourage everyone you know
to sign this petition. This isn't a partisan ploy -- it's an attempt to get at
the truth, regardless of which side is helped. Democrats who believe their candidate
has nothing to hide should not object to asking Kerry to release the rest of his
military records.
he American Public is getting no help from the liberal
media, who don't want to hurt their candidate's chances. There is no greater evidence
of the mainstream media's anti-Bush bias than their refusal to investigate and
report credible claims challenging Kerry's reputed Vietnam heroism and his outlandish
allegations against his own soldiers in 1971.
No, it is up to Americans
from both major parties to convince Kerry to release his records so we, the people,
can see the truth in time for the election. Act now, with the assurance a copy
of your signed petition also goes to the U.S. Navy as an incentive to speed up
the investigation.
Form 180 will either cause Kerry or his detractors to
take a 180-degree turn. So if Kerry still refuses to sign, America has its answer.
