On the perils of socialized medicine in Great Britain…

Great Britain’s National Health Service is unable to fulfill its most basic function. No, I’m not even talking about medical care. I’m talking about feeding patients. Britain’s Office for National Statistics just issued a chilling report. Over the last four years, 1,165 people in government hospitals starved to death. The chief reason cited for patient starvation is that nurses are “too busy” to feed them.

On the societal consequences of gay marriage…

Once the concept of gay marriage, homosexual marriage, is sanctioned and made legal, then, if a religion or an individual church refuses to perform the ceremony, then there could well be a lawsuit. And then it would depend on how a judge felt about it… I mean, look. If the Catholic Church can be forced to give away abortifacients and birth control pills, why can't the church be forced to marry gay couples who want the sacrament?

On government plans for your 401(k)…

The government has figured out that that (401(k)) deduction is costing them money, and they don't have any money. They need it. Now, the amount of money it's costing them is minuscule compared to the debt, the deficit, or any other comparative that you want to use. It's minuscule. But it's still money that they think is theirs.

On Obamacare and it’s effect on health insurance rates…

The nation's big health insurers -- Aetna, for example -- say that they expect health insurance premium(s), the cost for coverage, to rise or even double. Now get this, folks. Health insurance prices are going "to rise from twenty to 100% for millions of people" starting in January. Yes, 2014's really the year where everything in Obamacare gets implemented. It doesn't fully vest or fully implement, but 2014 is when what has yet to happen begins to, and it's very important. So keep this in mind now. So the insurance companies are saying that their premiums are going to go up anywhere from twenty to 100% for millions of people as a result of Obamacare being implemented.

On the Republican establishment…

They're not taking responsibility for what's happened. They go out, they lose elections, and they blame everybody else! They're running the party. We're not. Safe to say? I mean, they're getting the nominees they want and they're losing, and somehow it's our fault for being "exclusive"? We're not excluding anybody! You know, the Republican elites are the same as the Democrat elites, and they set up these straw men, and they try to act like everything they're doing is not their doing and not their responsibility.

On why Republicans did so poorly in the 2012 election cycle...

The Republican Party lost because it's not conservative. It didn't get its base out in the 2012 election. Now, that's simple to say, and it's probably simple for you to agree with, but I'm telling you, that is a major mountain to climb within the party itself, as you well know, because the establishment in Washington, the ruling class, both parties, is not conservative, and in fact they fear it. They're very much worried about it because it's considered an outsider movement. So they kicked the Tea Party out, they try to deemphasize the Tea Party, don't use it, let's put it that way. They did not use the asset that the Tea Party provided them.

On Mitt Romney’s 2012 election loss…

There was a significant percentage of the conservative base that was just fed up. They looked at Obama as a sitting duck. I mean, this economy is in bad shape, everything's horrible, Benghazi is happening. But they didn't see any apparent, real desire to win. They said, "Why should I support this?"

On President Obama’s attitude about the details of Obamacare…

Obama doesn't care about the details of his health care law. All Obama cares about is that one-sixth of the US economy has been transferred to government control. The daily machinations of how it's all going to shake out and affect people? He couldn't care less.

Mark Steyn is guest-hosting for Rush today… On the devastating impact of the Sequester on National Parks…

That's how bad sequestration is, folks, in Yellowstone Park. They're down to one fox! They've had to lay off all the other foxes. This one fox is having to go around, stand in front of the tourists, and be photographed multiple times. One fox, one elk, one bald eagle. That's all you get for your ticket to Yellowstone.

On the Rand Paul filibuster and the anger of the GOP old guard in the Senate…

McCain and others are complaining that Rand Paul is out abusing Senate rules and is appealing to extreme, kooky Libertarians in their college dorms, while everybody else sees an assault on freedom and liberty and the economy and everything else taking place, and they see the Republicans sitting at the same table of the guy who's doing it. Who are they siding with?

On the passing of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez…

Do you think it might bother the left that, while the country of Venezuela is basically a sewer, Chavez is worth $2 billion that he did not have when he assumed the presidency? Do you think it might bother somebody like Sean Penn or Oliver Stone or Diane Sawyer or Piers Morgan or Barbara Walters or Larry King?

On low-information voters and the public perception of Obama and Republicans…

They're not dumb. Some of them are, but they're low-information, they just don't know. And what they think they know isn't right. And that's the real danger. These are people who think they understand it all. These are people, some are college students, college grads, they think they understand it, and it's what they know that's wrong. That is the problem. They have bought hook, line, and sinker that Obama is a great healer, compromiser, wants to be bipartisan. But man, it's just those Republicans, mean, extreme Republicans, that just don't want to give him any credit for anything, and won't agree with him on anything, and they won't move or compromise at all. When, in fact, the Republicans have caved more than the sinkhole up in Tampa. They never get any credit for it. But they've caved left and right.

On Obama’s uncanny ability to avoid the political consequences of his policies…

The genius of Barack Obama is the truth never attaches itself to him. It's not that he's not held accountable, that's not the genius. It's not that the media doesn't tie him to it. His genius is his direct relationship with the people that vote for him and how he is able to convince them. I don't even think he needs the media, frankly. Now, it would be a lot harder if the media were challenging him, but that is a hypothetical that's never gonna happen because the media never is gonna be in opposition to Obama, so that's a pipe dream.
